A Sweet Tradition

Me and Momma.jpg
Throughout my childhood, I consistently demonstrated a creative streak, fueled by a vibrant imagination and a passion for crafting. At the age of 8, I began crocheting, while my interest in sewing emerged much later in life. My mother, an avid sewer, would sew almost daily until she was no longer able. Approximately 11 years ago, I approached her to help me with a project: I would assemble the project, and she would handle the sewing, with the understanding that we would share the profits. Her response was characteristically succinct, as she gestured toward her sewing machine and book, saying, "There's a machine and a book right beside it." I took her advice to heart, bringing the machine and book home and teaching myself to sew. Although the learning process was initially challenging, I found it incredibly rewarding, and I often recall the conversations I had with my mother while she sewed, which inadvertently taught me valuable skills over the course of 40 years. It astonishes me how much knowledge I gleaned from those everyday conversations.
